Someone who applies his or her knowledge of the pure sciences to make practical applications for real world problems is by definition an engineer. Engineers are the people who create solutions to issues that the world faces on a daily basis, from miniscule problems such as creating a more ergonomic workplace to large scale issues such as global warming. Without engineers the world would not be as advanced as it is today, we would all still be clueless about electricity, we wouldn’t have the advanced knowledge on space and we might still not have had proper methods of transportation. It was these needs that provoked an unthinkable amount of innovation to what has lead us to this day and age. A major key in the creation of the real world as we know it today is the knowledge and use of coal, which started during the Industrial Revolution from 1760 to 1840 and its continued success in this day and age that allowed us to advance at a pace so rapid that it could not have been imagined even 50 years ago despite the lack of accreditation that coal actually receives for its enormous amounts of energy output.
